In the cold of a January night in West Baltimore, the life of Tarone Thompson, a 36-year-old man, was tragically cut short. On January 15, 2022, at approximately 10:25 p.m., police were called to the 2300 block of West Lanvale Street for a report of a shooting. Upon arrival, they discovered Thompson suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Despite the immediate response from medics, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
The news of Thompson's violent death prompted an outpouring of grief
and shock on social media from those who knew him. Friends and family remembered him as a man who was striving to improve his life.
In the weeks that followed, Baltimore Police detectives worked to identify a suspect in the fatal shooting. Their investigation led them to 37-year-old Davone McDaniels. On March 7, 2022, McDaniels turned himself in to the Central Booking Intake Facility. He was subsequently charged with first-degree murder in connection with Tarone Thompson's death. McDaniels was ordered to be held without bail while awaiting trial. The motive for the shooting was not immediately released by authorities.
