In the spring of 2022, a wave of violence shattered the coastal calm of Biloxi, Mississippi, forever altering the lives of many. Laura Lehman, a 61-year-old White female, was among the victims of this tragic series of events. For thirteen or fourteen years, she had been the property manager at the Broadway Inn Express, a beachfront motel where she also resided with her daughter, Brittany.
On the morning of April 27, 2022, a guest at the motel named Jeremy Reynolds, 32, embarked on a violent rampage. Reynolds had been staying at the Broadway Inn Express for a couple of days before he opened fire, fatally shooting Laura Lehman, the motel's owner Mohammad 'Mo' Moeini, 51, and a maintenance man, Chad Green, 55. Brittany Lehman had left her mother's room only about half an hour before the shooting began. She learned of the horrific event through a friend and rushed back to the motel, where her worst fears were confirmed.
Following the initial attack, Reynolds fled the scene in a stolen vehicle, his violent spree continuing into the neighboring city of Gulfport. There, he carjacked and fatally shot a 52-year-old city contractor named William Waltman. The chase with law enforcement culminated in a standoff at a convenience store, where Reynolds barricaded himself inside.
SWAT teams responded and attempted to negotiate with Reynolds, but after receiving no response, they entered the store. Inside, they found Reynolds deceased. An autopsy later revealed that he had died from smoke inhalation, having set a fire within the store. The autopsies of Laura Lehman and the other victims confirmed that they had all died from multiple gunshot wounds. The motive for Reynolds' violent actions remains unclear.
