In Elkton, Maryland, on the evening of March 21, 2022, a domestic dispute escalated into a fatal encounter, claiming the life of 22-year-old Daquon Colson. The tragic events unfolded at a residence on Abbott Drive, where Colson was visiting a female friend.
The night before the shooting, Isaiah Solomon Pearson had discovered Colson at the home of his former girlfriend, with whom he shared a child. The following evening, Pearson returned to the apartment and again found Colson there.
This led to a violent confrontation, during which Pearson fired a gun multiple times.
Responding to a 911 call, Elkton Police Department officers found Colson in a bedroom, having sustained five gunshot wounds. Paramedics pronounced him deceased at the scene. In the immediate aftermath of the shooting, Pearson fled the area. Investigators were able to track his cell phone to the Richmond, Virginia area before the signal was lost.
On March 29, 2022, U.S. Marshals and officers with the Henrico County Police Department in Virginia apprehended Pearson. He was subsequently extradited back to Maryland to face charges. After a four-day trial in July 2023, a Cecil County jury found Isaiah Solomon Pearson, 24, guilty of second-degree murder, use of a firearm in the commission of a crime of violence, assault, reckless endangerment, and illegally carrying a handgun. On October 20, 2023, after hearing victim impact statements from Daquon Colson's family, a judge sentenced Pearson to 70 years in prison.
