On the evening of August 24, 2022, the life of Michael Daye, a 33-year-old Black man, was tragically cut short in Baltimore, Maryland. At approximately 10:25 p.m., the sound of gunfire prompted a shot spotter alert in the 3300 block of Greenmount Avenue. Responding patrol officers discovered Mr. Daye at the scene, suffering from apparent gunshot wounds.
Urgently transported to a nearby hospital, medical personnel fought to save his life, but his injuries proved to be too severe.
Michael Daye was pronounced dead, turning the investigation over to homicide detectives. The cause of his death was officially ruled a shooting.
In the wake of the incident, the Baltimore Police Department initiated a homicide investigation.
