On a cold December evening in Cambridge, Maryland, the life of 69-year-old Lory Eugene Fields, a Black/African American male, was tragically cut short. On December 8, 2022, Fields was found shot to death in the 700 block of High Street, a grim end to a day that saw another fatal shooting in the community just hours earlier. The sudden violence left the town shaken and law enforcement with a double homicide on their hands.
The investigation into the killings of Fields and 24-year-old
Taijay Brian Daniels, the victim of the earlier shooting, quickly pointed to a single suspect. The following night, officers located a man matching the suspect's description attempting to break into a vehicle. The man, identified as 22-year-old Tramelle Lamar Williams, fled when approached by police. After a brief chase on foot, Williams reportedly displayed a handgun, prompting an officer to fire their weapon, striking him.
Williams' injuries were not life-threatening, and he was taken to a local hospital for treatment before being taken into custody. Investigators believe that Williams had shot Daniels during an armed robbery earlier on the day of the murders. Williams was subsequently charged with first and second-degree murder, along with other related offenses, in connection with both the death of Lory Eugene Fields and Taijay Brian Daniels. The Maryland State Police Homicide Unit, in collaboration with the Cambridge Police Department, continued to investigate the brutal slayings that had robbed two families of their loved ones.
