Willis T. "Zonk" Foster, a night policeman with the Greer Police Department in South Carolina, tragically lost his life on July 2, 1904, at the age of 36. Foster was engaged in a foot pursuit of suspected bootleggers through a wooded area near the old Wayside Inn, located at the intersection of Poinsett and Main streets in Greer.
