On a late summer evening in Greer, South Carolina, a dispute over a go-cart escalated into a tragedy that claimed the life of 33-year-old Donald Travis Harper Jr. on September 5, 2014. Harper, a male originally from New Bern, North Carolina, was known for his love of catfishing and his dedication to his family. That evening, Spartanburg County deputies responded to a call and found Harper unconscious in the front yard of a residence on East Poinsett Street Extension, suffering from multiple
gunshot wounds. He was rushed to Spartanburg Medical Center, but his injuries proved to be fatal.
The investigation into the shooting quickly revealed that the violent altercation stemmed from a disagreement concerning a go-cart. Eyewitnesses at the scene provided accounts that led authorities to identify Keylan D. McClintock, a 21-year-old from Spartanburg, as the individual who shot Harper. The senseless nature of the crime was a focal point of the subsequent legal proceedings.
Following the investigation, Keylan D. McClintock was arrested and charged with the murder of Donald Travis Harper Jr. In November 2015, McClintock entered a guilty plea for the murder. He was subsequently sentenced to a term of 30 years in prison. The court stipulated that the sentence must be served in its entirety, without the possibility of parole or early release, ensuring a long period of incarceration for the violent act that cut short the life of Donald Travis Harper Jr.
