On an autumn evening in Greer, South Carolina, the life of 39-year-old Adam Vazquez was tragically cut short. On October 31, 2019, the father of two and former chef at Sonny's Grill was at the Speedwash Laundromat on Arlington Road when he was fatally shot. The incident unfolded around 6:25 p.m. in the parking lot of the establishment. Vazquez was initially shot while inside his vehicle.
As he attempted to escape his attacker, he was shot three more times before collapsing approximately 50 feet away from his Ford Explorer. Despite the efforts of witnesses who rushed to administer first aid, Vazquez succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene by the Spartanburg County Coroner.
The Greer Police Department launched an investigation into the homicide, which led them to a suspect a little over a month later. On December 6, 2019, authorities arrested 40-year-old Kevin Choice, also known as Calvin Choice, of Greenville. He was taken into custody in Greenville County on unrelated charges before being transferred to the custody of the Greer Police Department. Choice was subsequently charged with murder, criminal conspiracy, and possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime in connection with the death of Adam Vazquez.
Arrest warrants detailed that Choice was the individual who shot Vazquez multiple times. At the time of Choice's arrest, investigators stated that the case remained active and that they anticipated more arrests would be made. The community was urged to come forward with any information that could assist in the ongoing investigation into the death of Adam Vazquez.
