Deputy Sheriff James Brent McCants, aged 23, tragically lost his life on September 25, 1992, in Rock Hill, South Carolina. McCants was conducting a routine traffic stop on Dave Lyle Boulevard near I-77 when he was fatally shot. Unbeknownst to him, the vehicle he had pulled over had been stolen just two hours earlier during a carjacking in Charlotte, North Carolina. The two occupants of the car, Mar-Reece Hughes and Dwayne Eric Forney, opened fire on McCants, shooting him seven times.
