In the early hours of a Saturday morning in Rock Hill, South Carolina, the sounds of a birthday celebration were tragically silenced by gunfire. On March 31, 2018, 24-year-old Eric Levon Williams, a male, was attending a party at the old American Legion building on Cherry Road. An altercation led to a shooting, and Williams was struck.
When police responded to the scene around 1 a.m., they found no victim. Williams had already been taken by private vehicle to Piedmont Medical Center.
From there, he was transferred to Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte, North Carolina, due to the severity of his injuries. Despite medical efforts, he succumbed to his wounds and passed away. His death was ruled the city's first homicide of 2018.
Williams was known as a dedicated member of the South Carolina Army National Guard, holding the rank of Specialist. He was a graduate of South Pointe High School and was described by his family as a loving father to his young son and daughter. His family and his military community were left devastated, remembering him as a hardworking and quiet man who was committed to bettering his life and providing for his children. In the wake of his death, his mother pleaded for anyone with information to come forward.
As of today, the investigation into the shooting death of Eric Williams continues. Detectives interviewed individuals who were present at the party, but no arrests have been announced in connection with the case. The Rock Hill Police Department has not publicly identified any suspect or suspects in the years following the incident, and the case remains an unsolved homicide.
