Twenty-six-year-old Jimmy Williamson had been shot and was pronounced dead at the scene. Another man was found with serious injuries and was rushed to Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte.
The violence of that night was not yet fully tallied, as an 18-year-old, Mekhi Rawlinson, was taken by a private vehicle to Piedmont Medical Center, also suffering from grave gunshot wounds. He would succumb to his injuries the following morning.
The investigation into the deadly shootout painted a picture of a prearranged meeting that spiraled into a fatal encounter. A third victim, who survived the shooting, recounted to authorities that he had driven Williamson and Rawlinson to Blake Street to sell a gun to a woman. Alexis Thomasson was taken into custody and faced a litany of charges, including attempted murder, armed robbery, and criminal conspiracy. The incident was characterized by investigators as a drug deal that had taken a violent and deadly turn.
