In the winter of 2014, the life of 29-year-old Tresvon Atriel Coker was tragically cut short in Columbia, South Carolina. On the night of February 4th, Stanley Pernell Jones and his co-defendants forcibly entered Coker's residence on Brookfield Road. The intruders demanded money from Coker and his fiancée, Jessica Hall. In an act of self-defense, Coker confronted the assailants, but was shot in the head by Jones.
After fighting for his life for three weeks, Coker succumbed to his injuries on February 25, 2014.
The man responsible for Coker's death, Stanley Pernell Jones, was already engaged in a violent crime spree across the Midlands. Jones had been arrested for an armed robbery on December 23, 2013, but was released on a $150,000 bond just a week later. While out on bond, he committed a series of burglaries, stealing property and a handgun in the weeks leading up to the fatal home invasion. The day after shooting Coker, Jones went on to commit another armed robbery at a Mini Mart.
Following a multi-state crime spree that extended to North Carolina and Virginia, Jones was eventually apprehended and extradited back to South Carolina. In a comprehensive plea deal, Stanley Pernell Jones pleaded guilty to a multitude of charges, including the murder of Tresvon Coker, three counts of burglary, six counts of armed robbery, eleven counts of kidnapping, and numerous other offenses. For his reign of terror and the senseless killing of Tresvon Coker, Jones was sentenced to 70 years in the South Carolina Department of Corrections, with no eligibility for parole.
