On a late Sunday evening in March 2014, the life of 17-year-old Brandon Davis, a male former student of Clover High School, was cut short in a burst of gunfire. The events that led to his tragic death began to unfold in the Glen at Clover mobile home community in Clover, South Carolina. What started as a drug deal quickly escalated into a fatal encounter, leaving a family to mourn and a community in shock.
The incident was set in motion when Brandon Davis and a friend, 22-year-old
Michael Lynn Mcafee, arranged to purchase three ounces of marijuana. They met with a group that included 21-year-old Ezekiel James Lundquist, 19-year-old Tevin Dye, and 20-year-old Javeas Wesley Cohn. After receiving the drugs, Davis attempted to flee without paying. In response, Cohn fired shots at the departing vehicle, one of which fatally struck Davis. Mcafee, who was also injured in the shooting, drove to a friend's house nearby seeking help, where Davis was pronounced dead.
The investigation that followed led to the swift arrests of those involved. Javeas Wesley Cohn, identified as the shooter, was initially charged with murder. He later pleaded guilty to the lesser charge of voluntary manslaughter and received a sentence of more than 16 years in prison. Tevin Dye, who was deemed less culpable, pleaded guilty to conspiracy to distribute marijuana and was sentenced to three years of probation. Ezekiel James Lundquist, who also faced a murder charge, and Michael Lynn Mcafee, who was charged with obstruction of justice for providing false statements to the police, were also taken into custody. Another individual, Morgan Kalea Robinson, who was present during the drug deal, was also charged in connection to the incident.
