On May 3, 2024, 51-year-old Stephen Roger Stowe of Clover, South Carolina, was fatally shot following an argument on Enon Church Road. The York County Sheriff's Office identified the suspects as Mitchell and Shelby Strickland, a married couple who were acquaintances of Stowe. The confrontation between Stowe and the Stricklands escalated, leading to the shooting.
