In the spring of 2014, a dispute between neighbors in the Red Bank area of Lexington County, South Carolina, escalated to a fatal encounter, ending the life of 42-year-old Bobby Lee Christofoli. On the evening of April 2, 2014, Christofoli was shot and killed following a heated argument with his neighbor. The male victim was found lying on Cheryse Drive, a rural dirt road.
The events of that day unfolded after Billy John Geisendorff, who was 52 at the time, had been drinking and had made
several attempts to start a fight with Christofoli. The argument intensified, leading Geisendorff to go to his home and retrieve a. 22-caliber revolver. He then returned and continued the confrontation with his neighbor. At some point during the altercation, Geisendorff fired the handgun multiple times, striking Christofoli in the chest, heart, neck, and arm. An autopsy would later confirm that Christofoli was shot in the heart and died from blood loss within minutes.
When Lexington County sheriff's deputies arrived at the scene around 9 p.m., they discovered Christofoli's body in the roadway. Witnesses at the scene identified Geisendorff as the shooter. About an hour later, law enforcement located Geisendorff hiding in the crawl space under a nearby home on the same street. Along with Geisendorff, deputies also found the revolver used in the shooting, a knife, a flashlight, and a case of beer.
Billy John Geisendorff was arrested and charged with murder and possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime. In September 2016, a jury found him guilty of both charges. Subsequently, he was sentenced to life in prison for the murder of Bobby Lee Christofoli.
