In the early morning hours of June 14, 2014, the life of 31-year-old Joseph Jamal Marion of Greenville, South Carolina, was tragically cut short. Marion was at the Black and Mild club on Hampton Avenue in Greenville when he was shot in the head at close range. The single gunshot wound proved to be fatal. At the time of his death, Joseph Marion was a father, son, and brother.
The investigation into the death of Joseph Marion quickly focused on a suspect named Tony Lametrius Leamon.
According to authorities, Leamon became annoyed with Marion at the nightclub and the altercation escalated to a fatal shooting. Following the incident, Leamon fled the state in an attempt to evade capture. His girlfriend later provided crucial information to the police, which implicated several co-defendants who had assisted Leamon in his escape to Carrollton, Texas. It was in Texas that law enforcement officials were ultimately able to locate and apprehend him.
After his arrest and return to South Carolina, Tony Lametrius Leamon stood trial for the murder of Joseph Marion. In July 2017, a Greenville County jury found the then 33-year-old Leamon guilty of murder. Prosecutors revealed during the trial that Leamon had confessed to his girlfriend, admitting that he shot Marion because he had been annoying him throughout the night. Following his conviction, Tony Lametrius Leamon was sentenced to life in prison.
