In the summer of 2014, a domestic dispute in Columbia, South Carolina, escalated into a fatal shooting that claimed the life of 23-year-old Dajuan N. Harris. On the morning of July 2nd, shots rang out inside an apartment at the Brook Pines Apartment complex, prompting a swift response from law enforcement. When Richland County Sheriff's deputies arrived at the scene, they discovered Harris had been shot multiple times in his upper body.
He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The violence of that morning was not limited to Harris. His wife, who was also present in the apartment, sustained a gunshot wound to her lower body. The incident quickly became a double shooting investigation, shaking the community and leaving a family devastated. Harris was a father and a husband, known affectionately as 'Coach D' to the children he coached in baseball. His sudden and violent death left behind a loving wife, two young daughters, and a wide circle of family and friends to mourn their loss.
In the immediate aftermath of the shooting, law enforcement launched a manhunt for the suspected gunman. The search, which involved K-9 units and air support, did not last long. A few hours later, authorities apprehended 20-year-old Dexter Lamons Myers. Investigators revealed a familial connection between the suspect and the victims; Myers was the brother of Harris's wife. He was subsequently charged with the murder of Dajuan Harris and the attempted murder of his own sister.
