In the quiet, early morning hours of May 9, 2015, in Aiken, South Carolina, a sequence of events unfolded that would tragically end the life of 21-year-old Darius Scruggs. Officers from the Aiken Department of Public Safety were dispatched to a residence on Brown Lane following a report of a burglary in progress. Upon their arrival, they discovered Scruggs suffering from a gunshot wound to the head.
