Danielle Colburn-Govan, a 46-year-old Black female, was killed on November 11, 2016. Remembered for her caregiving nature, Colburn-Govan's death sent ripples through her community. She was a mother and was survived by her daughter and her own mother.

Law enforcement officials with the Richland County Sheriff's Department discovered Danielle Colburn-Govan in her home on Morningside Drive with gunshot wounds to her upper body. The investigation led them to her husband, Anton Govan, who was found deceased in Orangeburg County. Investigators concluded that Anton Govan shot and killed his wife before taking his own life.
As the perpetrator died by suicide, there were no arrests or subsequent legal proceedings in the case. The incident highlighted the devastating impact of domestic violence. In October of the following year, Danielle Colburn-Govan was honored at the 20th annual Silent Witness Domestic Violence ceremony at the South Carolina State House, a solemn event that remembers the victims of such tragedies.
