In the early morning hours of June 13, 2014, the life of 23-year-old Aja Dawn Robinson was tragically cut short in Columbia, South Carolina. A hardworking young woman, she was employed at two jobs and was eagerly looking forward to moving into her first apartment. Her bright future, however, was extinguished in a violent act of domestic violence perpetrated by an ex-boyfriend.
The events leading to her death unfolded with a terrifying car chase.
Her ex-boyfriend, who had been stalking her overnight, pursued her vehicle. The chase concluded in a parking lot on North Main Street, just a few blocks from her home. Before she could even exit her car, he fired two shots, fatally wounding her. Immediately after, he turned the gun on himself, ending his own life in a murder-suicide.
Due to the perpetrator's suicide at the scene, there were no arrests made in connection with Aja's murder. The case was subsequently closed by law enforcement. The devastating event left her family, including her mother who was an anti-domestic violence activist, heartbroken. In the wake of this tragedy, her mother founded a group called 'Angels for Aja' to support others affected by domestic violence and grief.
