In the early morning hours of February 27, 2020, the life of 40-year-old Shakila Shanta Booker was tragically cut short in Columbia, South Carolina. Gunfire erupted on Brady Street just after 6 a.m., leaving Booker with a fatal wound to her lower body. Despite her injuries, she managed to walk to nearby Carnegie Street in a desperate search for help. Emergency services were dispatched to the scene following reports of shots fired, and Booker was quickly transported to a local hospital.
Tragically, her injuries proved too severe, and she was later pronounced dead.
The investigation into the female victim's death swiftly moved forward, and within weeks, a suspect was in custody. On March 18, 2020, the Richland County Sheriff's Fugitive Task Force arrested 39-year-old Lynwood Small at his home without incident. Small was subsequently charged with murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime in connection with Booker's death.
Known affectionately as 'Kila,' Shakila was remembered as a person who lived life to the fullest and had the ability to bring a smile to everyone she encountered. Her hobbies included drawing, playing the tuba, and making new friends. She leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories for her four children, Asia, Elijah, Dexter, Jr., and Nefateria, as well as her parents and siblings.
