On March 19, 2025, Anaya Q. Herndon, a 22-year-old African American woman from Columbia, South Carolina, was tragically killed in a shooting at the Greenbrier Apartments on Willow Oak Drive. Responding to reports of gunfire around 2 p.m., deputies from the Richland County Sheriff's Department discovered Herndon in the driver's seat of a vehicle, suffering from a gunshot wound to the upper body.
