On a winter evening in Anderson, South Carolina, the life of 49-year-old Harold 'Cookie' Gaines Jr. was cut short in a violent confrontation. The Black male passed away on January 8, 2018, after being involved in a deadly shootout at an Anderson nightclub. The incident, which also resulted in the death of 29-year-old Jwan Smith, stemmed from a personal dispute.
