In the winter of 2021, the life of 33-year-old Lorenzo Sanchez Hunter was tragically cut short in Anderson, South Carolina. On the evening of February 6th, Hunter was shot in the chest on B Street. He was rushed to a local hospital but ultimately succumbed to his injuries the following day, on February 7, 2021. Another man, 24-year-old Daquavious Antonio Tillison, was also a victim of the same violent incident, pronounced dead at the scene from a gunshot wound to the head.
The Anderson
Police Department quickly launched a homicide investigation and identified three suspects in connection with the double murder: Frank Thomas Rhoads, who was 39 at the time, 31-year-old William Christopher Flynn, and 19-year-old Dominick Michael Rhoads. Warrants were issued for their arrests on two counts of murder for each man. Authorities alerted the public that the suspects were considered armed and dangerous and might be traveling in one of two vehicles, a black Ford Fusion or a gray Chevrolet Suburban.
A multi-state manhunt ensued, which came to a dramatic conclusion in Virginia. On February 12, 2021, Virginia State Police troopers spotted the suspects' Ford Fusion traveling north on Interstate 81. When they attempted to initiate a traffic stop, the vehicle sped off, leading to a high-speed chase. The pursuit turned perilous as the suspects' car ended up driving south in the northbound lanes before crashing off the road and into a tree. The three men then fled on foot but were apprehended shortly after. Frank Rhoads, the driver, sustained minor injuries in the crash. Following their capture, all three men were held at the Northwestern Regional Adult Detention Center in Virginia as they awaited extradition back to South Carolina to face the murder charges. Frank Rhoads also faced charges in Virginia for eluding police, reckless driving, and having altered license plates.
