A visit to see family in Anderson, South Carolina, ended in tragedy for 33-year-old Reenan Jamal Smith on the night of April 1, 2023. Smith, who had traveled from New York, was involved in a domestic altercation with a known acquaintance. The dispute escalated to violence, and Smith was fatally shot.
Law enforcement and emergency medical personnel responded to the scene at the intersection of Tribble Street and North Murray Avenue, where they found Smith with gunshot wounds.
He was transported to AnMed, a local medical center, but ultimately succumbed to his injuries. The Anderson County Coroner's Office subsequently ruled his death a homicide.
In the wake of the shooting, investigators quickly identified a suspect. Santonia Morrison, 24 years old at the time, was arrested in connection with Smith's death. She was subsequently charged with murder and possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime. Following her arrest, Morrison was denied bond at a hearing.
