In the early morning hours of September 3, 2020, the life of 26-year-old Nathan Gray was tragically cut short in a hail of gunfire in Anderson, South Carolina. A drive-by shooting on R Street sent multiple bullets into a home where Gray was present. He was fatally wounded when one of the projectiles struck him. The violent outburst also left three other individuals with injuries.
Two of the wounded were transported to a local medical center for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries, while a third individual declined medical attention at the scene.
The Anderson County Sheriff's Office immediately launched an investigation into the shooting. Detectives working the case soon came to believe that the individuals involved were likely known to one another, suggesting the attack was not a random act of violence. As investigators delved deeper into the circumstances surrounding the deadly assault, a suspect emerged. Lytavius Niree Richardson was identified as a person of interest in the case.
Based on evidence gathered during their investigation, which reportedly included video footage and statements from witnesses that connected him to a vehicle used in the shooting, authorities moved to apprehend Richardson. He was subsequently arrested and faced a series of serious charges. These included one count of murder for the death of Nathan Gray, three counts of attempted murder for the other individuals who were shot at, and a charge of possession of a weapon during a violent crime. Following his arrest, Richardson was booked into the Anderson County Detention Center to await a bond hearing as the legal process against him commenced.
