On the evening of February 3, 2024, a 911 call from a residence on E Street in Anderson, South Carolina, brought police to a tragic scene. Inside, first responders found Keenan E. Turman, a 33-year-old Black male, with a single gunshot wound to his chest. Despite their efforts, he was pronounced dead at the scene. The coroner later ruled his death a homicide.
The person who made the 911 call was Andreana Shanice Ware, Turman’s 34-year-old girlfriend.
Ware initially told responders that she had shot Turman accidentally. Her story soon changed to a claim of self-defense, alleging that Turman had kicked down her door and strangled her for several minutes before she shot him. However, investigators at the scene immediately found that the evidence did not support her account.
Police observed no signs of forced entry at the home, and they knew that Turman lived at the residence with Ware and had the code to unlock the door. Using forensic tools, investigators also discovered that large amounts of blood had been wiped up from the floor where Turman was shot. Authorities concluded that Ware had shot Turman as he walked through the door and then spent up to 30 minutes cleaning the crime scene before she called for help.
Ware was arrested and charged with murder and possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime. During her trial, prosecutors revealed that Ware had a history of violence with Turman. The jury heard a voicemail Turman had left for a family member on the day he was killed, in which he could be heard begging Ware to stop waving a pistol around.
Following a weeklong trial, an Anderson County jury found Andreana Shanice Ware, then 37, guilty on both charges on April 3, 2026. Circuit Judge R. Scott Sprouse subsequently sentenced her to 30 years in prison. The case was officially closed as of April 2026.
