In the late afternoon of June 8, 2024, emergency responders were called to the Hampton Green and Hampton Crest Apartments on Palmetto Lane in Anderson, South Carolina, following reports of gunfire. There, they found 28-year-old Ranson Tyree Strong, a Black/African American male, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Medical personnel administered aid at the scene before he was transported by ambulance and subsequently airlifted to Prisma Health in Greenville.
Despite the efforts of the medical team, he succumbed to his injuries and passed away during surgery at approximately 5:41 p.m. The Anderson County Coroner's Office later ruled his death a homicide.
Known affectionately as 'Ty' to his family and friends, and as 'Westbrook' to his basketball companions, Ranson was remembered as a gifted athlete. He was an employee at International Vitamin Corporation. His death prompted an immediate and thorough investigation by the Anderson County Sheriff's Office. Deputies, along with K-9 units and drones, scoured the area in search of any individuals who may have been involved in the fatal shooting.
As the investigation continues, the motive behind the shooting remains unclear, and authorities have not yet publicly identified any suspects. No arrests have been announced in connection with the death of Ranson Tyree Strong. The Anderson County Sheriff's Office has urged anyone with information related to the incident to come forward and contact them or to submit anonymous tips through Crime Stoppers to assist in their ongoing investigation. The community mourned his loss, with funeral services held on June 17, 2024, followed by his interment at Anderson Memorial Gardens. He is survived by his parents and a daughter.
