A young man’s life was cut short in a burst of gunfire on a Friday evening in Philadelphia. Michael Goodwin, a 21-year-old Black male, was on the 5600 block of Baltimore Avenue on May 19, 2023, when violence erupted. Just before 9 p.m., the sound of gunshots echoed through the street, leaving three people wounded.
When Philadelphia Police officers arrived at the scene, they found Goodwin lying on the sidewalk, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.
He was rushed to Penn Presbyterian Medical Center, but despite the efforts of the medical staff, he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead later that night. Two other young men were also caught in the crossfire. A 17-year-old was struck in the shoulder, and an 18-year-old was shot in the leg. Both were transported to the same hospital for treatment.
The investigation into the shooting is ongoing, and as of now, no arrests have been made and no suspects have been publicly identified. The Philadelphia Police Department is urging anyone with information about the incident to come forward as they continue to seek answers and justice for Michael Goodwin and the other victims. The case remains an open and active homicide investigation.
