In a tragic turn of events on January 26, 2018, 25-year-old Cody Diminovich, a male resident of Aiken County, South Carolina, was found deceased in his home. The discovery was made after a 911 call reported a shooting, prompting Aiken County Sheriff's Office deputies to respond to the Buldra Lane residence. Upon their arrival, they were required to force entry into the house, where they found Diminovich and his 38-year-old roommate, Pamela Lawson, both dead from multiple gunshot wounds.
The investigation quickly identified a suspect, 20-year-old Jeremie David Tobey, who also lived at the residence. Authorities announced that Tobey was wanted on two counts of murder and a charge of grand larceny for stealing the victims' 2011 blue Honda Civic. Following the incident, Tobey fled the state, sparking a multi-jurisdictional manhunt. His time as a fugitive was short-lived, however, as he was apprehended by the Connecticut State Police on the Monday following the murders. The stolen vehicle was also recovered by the authorities in Connecticut.
After his capture, Jeremie Tobey was extradited back to South Carolina to face the charges against him. In a resolution to the case, Tobey pleaded guilty to the murders of Cody Diminovich and Pamela Lawson. He was subsequently sentenced to 50 years in prison for the killings. During the investigation, it was revealed that a 14-year-old boy was present in the home at the time of the shootings but managed to hide and was unharmed. Tobey later disclosed to investigators that his motive for the fatal shootings stemmed from an argument he had with Pamela Lawson.
