On April 28, 1946, Edward Bennett and his wife, Mary Bennett, were tragically shot to death in front of their young children during a robbery at their grocery store in Aiken County, South Carolina. Edward Bennett's last words were reportedly, 'a big negro shot me and robbed me'.
