Ernest Leonard Filyaw, aged 31, tragically lost his life on September 15, 1997, in Aiken, South Carolina. Filyaw was one of the victims in a mass shooting at the R.E. Phelon Company, a lawn mower parts manufacturing factory where he worked as a tool and die machinist. The perpetrator, Hastings Arthur Wise, was a former employee of the company who had been terminated from his position in July 1997.
