In the quiet community of Plantersville, Mississippi, the life of Randy Benson, a 59-year-old Caucasian male, was brought to a tragic and violent end on the night of July 24, 2021. Known as a master carpenter who had spent his life in the Richmond Community, Benson was found at his residence with multiple gunshot wounds. The Lee County Sheriff's Department responded to a call about a shooting in progress at approximately 10 p.m. and discovered his body.

Investigators determined that an altercation had occurred inside Benson's home, which ultimately led to the fatal shooting. Evidence and witness statements quickly pointed to Bradley Kevin King, a 54-year-old acquaintance of Benson from Nettleton, as the primary suspect. King fled the scene in a small, gray SUV, prompting a multi-county search by law enforcement who considered him to be armed and dangerous.

After several days on the run, authorities successfully located and apprehended King in a wooded area near Tombigbee State Park. The capture was a collaborative effort involving the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks, and the U.S. Marshals Service. Following his arrest, Bradley Kevin King was charged with the murder of Randy Benson. Another man, John Nathan Collier of Nettleton, was also implicated in the aftermath of the crime. Collier was arrested and charged with hindering prosecution and being an accessory after the fact, for allegedly assisting King after the shooting.
