In the early morning hours of May 25, 2018, the life of 29-year-old Brandon Davon Grant, a Black male from Florence, South Carolina, was tragically cut short. The fatal incident unfolded in the parking lot of the Magic City nightclub on West Lucas Street, where an altercation escalated to gunfire. Grant was shot and killed, leaving a void in the lives of his family and friends who remembered him as a loving and caring individual.
Affectionately known as 'Stro,' he was known to have a special bond with his grandmother and was dedicated to ensuring the needs of his family were met.
The Florence Police Department launched an immediate investigation into the shooting. Their efforts led them to identify a suspect, Trumaal Abdul Brown, then 27 years old and a resident of Timmonsville, South Carolina. The investigation suggested that the shooting stemmed from a dispute that took place in the nightclub's parking lot. Notably, the nightclub had been the scene of a previous shooting investigation in December of the prior year.
A significant development in the case came on June 4, 2018, when Trumaal Abdul Brown was apprehended. Officers with the Florence Police Department, with assistance from the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division, located and arrested Brown in the 700 block of South Dargan Street. Following his arrest, Brown was charged with murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime in connection with the death of Brandon Davon Grant. The arrest marked a crucial step for a community seeking justice for a life taken too soon.
