In the early morning hours of a mid-September Saturday in 2019, the life of 33-year-old John Louis Green Jr. was tragically cut short in Columbia, South Carolina. On September 14th, at approximately 2:30 a.m., Richland County Sheriff's deputies on patrol discovered Green walking in the 7200 block of Clifford Drive. Upon stopping to check on him, they made a grim discovery: Green had been shot.
Emergency medical services were quickly summoned, and Green was transported to Prisma Health
Richland Memorial Hospital. Despite the efforts of medical personnel, he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at 3:19 a.m. An autopsy later confirmed that the cause of death was gunshot wounds to the upper body. The Richland County Coroner's Office, along with the Sheriff's Department, began an investigation into the homicide.
