In the quiet hours of a December evening in Columbia, South Carolina, a gathering of friends turned into a scene of tragedy, leaving one man dead and a community searching for answers. Thomas West Jr., a 40-year-old male, was fatally shot on December 9, 2018, at a friend's residence on Ardicaple Drive. The incident, which unfolded around 8:30 p.m., cut short a life and began a homicide investigation that would soon lead to an arrest.
