In the pre-dawn hours of a late autumn Saturday in Columbia, South Carolina, the quiet of a residential neighborhood was shattered by the sound of gunfire. On October 25, 2025, residents of New York Avenue awoke to the unfolding of a tragedy that would claim the life of 37-year-old Jaqui Lamont Jones, a Black man and a veteran of the United States Army. Columbia Police officers were dispatched to the scene shortly before 4:30 a.m., where they discovered Jones suffering from fatal gunshot wounds. ...
