In the pre-dawn hours of a February morning in 2019, a mangled car lay silent in the wooded area off Interstate 77 in Columbia, South Carolina. What first appeared to be the tragic result of a single-vehicle accident soon unraveled into a complex and sorrowful mystery. The driver, a 22-year-old male named Shamar Johnson, had been ejected from the vehicle after it collided with the median and overturned multiple times near the Shop Road exit.
