In the early evening of Tuesday, February 26, 2019, Isaiah Thomas Martin Jr., a 27-year-old male, was found with gunshot wounds in the parking lot of the Arrington Place Apartments on Carnegie Street in Columbia, South Carolina. Emergency services were dispatched to the scene around 7 p.m. and transported Martin to a local hospital. He had been shot in the upper body and was pronounced dead at the hospital.
The Columbia Police Department quickly launched a homicide investigation into the
shooting. Their investigation led to the identification of a suspect, 28-year-old Rasheed Kasim Jones. It was determined that Martin and Jones were acquaintances and had been involved in an ongoing altercation that tragically escalated on that Tuesday evening.
Two days after the fatal shooting, on February 28, 2019, Rasheed Kasim Jones was arrested by the Columbia Police Department. He was charged with the murder of Isaiah Thomas Martin Jr. and possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime. Following his arrest, Jones was booked at the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center.
