On a tragic spring evening in Lancaster, South Carolina, 27-year-old Shonquil Marquis Medley's life was cut short. On April 5, 2020, Medley was with a group of people gathered outside a residence on Memorial Drive when a vehicle drove by and unleashed a barrage of gunfire into the crowd. The sudden and brazen act of violence left a chaotic and devastating scene in its wake.
Emergency services were quickly summoned to the scene where they discovered multiple victims.
Medley, along with four other individuals, had been struck by the gunfire. He was rushed to a nearby hospital for medical attention, but tragically succumbed to his injuries. The other victims, three men and one woman, sustained injuries but were expected to survive. The shooting was described by the Lancaster County Sheriff as a 'brazen, violent incident.'
Investigators believe the shots were fired from a passing vehicle on Mahaffey Line Drive. At the time of the shooting, a gathering was taking place at the home, and while several adults and children were inside, all of the victims were outside when the attack occurred. One of the victims was in a car with children, but fortunately, no children were harmed in the incident.
In the aftermath of the shooting, the Lancaster County Sheriff's Office, with assistance from the State Law Enforcement Division, launched a homicide investigation. Despite their efforts and developing some initial leads, authorities reported receiving very little useful information from those who were present at the scene. As of the latest available information, no arrests have been made in connection with the death of Shonquil Medley, and the investigation remains ongoing. The sheriff's office has urged anyone with information to come forward to help bring those responsible to justice.
