In the late afternoon of May 20, 2020, tragedy struck in the Conway area of South Carolina, forever altering the lives of two families. On that day, 19-year-old Tristan Sillsbury, a resident of Conway, was shot and killed on Oak Log Lake Road. The Horry County Coroner's Office officially ruled his death a homicide, launching an investigation that would quickly lead to an arrest.
The male victim's body was discovered along the road, though initial reports had suggested he might have been placed in a vehicle after the shooting.
Responding to the scene at approximately 3 p.m., Horry County police immediately began their investigation into the fatal shooting. Their efforts swiftly pointed them toward a suspect, and they assured the public that there was no ongoing threat to the community. The investigation uncovered that the incident transpired during a planned drug transaction. The suspect had reportedly driven to Sillsbury's home with the intention of selling him a quarter-pound of marijuana.
The day after the shooting, authorities announced the arrest of 18-year-old Cameron Paul Woo-Shuler, also of Conway. He was taken into custody and charged with murder, unlawful carrying of a pistol, and possession of a weapon during a violent crime. According to arrest warrants, Sillsbury was shot in the chest with a handgun. Police stated that Woo-Shuler admitted to shooting Sillsbury, and the weapon was recovered from the vehicle he drove. At the time of the incident, Woo-Shuler was out on bond for unrelated drug charges from March of the same year. He was subsequently held without bond at the J. Reuben Long Detention Center.
