In the winter of 2024, the life of 25-year-old Tyree Leonardo Graham, a Black/African American male, was cut short in Conway, South Carolina. On the evening of January 10th, police responded to a call on Hemingway Street to find Graham suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was immediately transported to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries.
Despite medical efforts, Tyree succumbed to his injuries in the early morning hours of January 11, 2024.
The investigation into Graham's death revealed a narrative of a robbery that turned fatal. Authorities identified two individuals allegedly involved in the incident. In March 2024, the Conway Police Department arrested 22-year-old Justice Jhamere Bright in connection with the crime. According to warrants, Bright and another individual, 18-year-old Ja'mir Sincere Johnson, had armed themselves with a 9mm handgun with the intent to rob Graham. During the commission of the robbery, Graham was shot. Bright faced a slew of charges, including accessory before the fact of murder, armed robbery, pointing and presenting a firearm, and resisting arrest, as he reportedly attempted to flee from law enforcement.
The case took a complex turn as investigators linked Graham's death to another fatal shooting. The second suspect, Ja'mir Sincere Johnson, was himself killed in a separate incident on February 1, 2024. Johnson was found shot near a school bus stop in Conway, just a few weeks after Graham's death. Police confirmed Johnson's involvement in the robbery and shooting of Graham. While an arrest was made in Graham's case, the investigation into Johnson's subsequent death remains ongoing as authorities continue to process forensic evidence. Justice Jhamere Bright was taken into custody and held at the J. Reuben Long Detention Center without bail.
