On a tragic November night in Sumter, South Carolina, the lives of the Davis family were irrevocably shattered. On November 14, 2020, a lone gunman shattered the peace of their home, ending the lives of 32-year-old Marcus Davis, his older brother Randy Davis, 36, and their father, Raymond Davis, 61. Marcus, a Black male, and his family were ambushed in a sudden act of violence that left a community in mourning.
The evening turned into a nightmare when a man dressed in black approached
the Davis residence. Marcus and his pregnant girlfriend were sitting in a car outside when the assailant opened fire, killing Marcus in the driver's seat. The gunman then pursued Randy Davis into the house, shooting him as he fled to a back bedroom. The patriarch of the family, Raymond Davis, was found deceased in the living room. The violent rampage also left Marcus's 21-year-old girlfriend, who was seven months pregnant, critically injured. She was rushed to the hospital where she underwent an emergency C-section. Tragically, the infant, named Myles Marcus Davis, succumbed to his injuries months later, adding a fourth murder charge for the accused.
The suspect, identified as 27-year-old Eugene Martin, was apprehended the following morning. It was revealed that Martin was a coworker of Marcus and Randy Davis, suggesting a possible work-related motive for the horrific attack. Martin was charged with three counts of murder, which was later amended to four, along with four counts of attempted murder, burglary, and other offenses. He had a prior criminal history, including a conviction for involuntary manslaughter in 2015 for which he served three years in prison. Following his arrest for the Davis family murders, his bond was denied, and he remains in custody at the Sumter County jail awaiting trial. The community was left to grapple with the senseless loss of three generations of a family.
