In the early evening of April 9, 2021, a burst of gunfire shattered the peace on Broad Street in Sumter, South Carolina, leaving a young man dead and a community searching for answers. The victim was identified as 27-year-old Alki Williams of Mayesville, a male who was found inside his vehicle which had come to a stop in a business parking area. He had been struck by gunfire and was pronounced dead at the scene.
