On the night of October 20, 2021, the quiet of Dallas Circle in Aiken was broken by reports of gunfire, and deputies were sent to a home at 24 Dallas Circle. Inside, they found Caleb D. Hill, 30, a Black man, unresponsive on a living-room couch with gunshot wounds. Aiken County EMS confirmed he had died there, turning what began as a shots-fired call into a homicide scene.
Investigators moved in alongside the Aiken County Coroner’s Office to begin piecing together what happened.
Early accounts said the 911 caller reported hearing multiple shots and screaming, details that suggested the violence erupted suddenly and close by. Authorities described the death as the result of multiple gunshot wounds, but the public information released at the time did not name a suspect or describe an arrest connected to the killing.
As the case unfolded, the Sheriff’s Office emphasized that the investigation needed the community’s help. Deputies asked anyone with information that could support the investigation—including relevant video—to contact the Aiken County Sheriff’s Office, and they pointed tipsters to Midlands Crime Stoppers for anonymous reporting, noting that tips could be eligible for a cash reward if they led to an arrest of the person or people responsible.
