In the fading afternoon light of a November day in Lancaster, South Carolina, the life of 21-year-old Tykeon Clyburn was tragically cut short. On Tuesday, November 23, 2021, Clyburn was near a basketball court on Pardue Circle when gunfire erupted shortly after 3 p.m. He was struck by the bullets and rushed to MUSC-Lancaster, but his injuries proved fatal.
Another man was also seriously wounded in the shooting and was airlifted to a hospital for treatment.
The investigation into the violent encounter unfolded over several months. Law enforcement officials pieced together the events of that day, which they later described as a 'mob shootout' involving multiple guns and numerous shooters. According to the Lancaster County Sheriff's Office, the deadly confrontation stemmed from a dispute over stolen drugs between two groups of men who exchanged gunfire in the residential area.
In early April 2022, a significant breakthrough was made in the case with the arrest of six individuals. Anthony Kiriakis Brice, 30, and Daviahne Xavious Duncan, 26, were charged with assault and battery by a mob in the first and second degree, along with two weapons charges. Zi'lik Montrez Dunifer, 20, and Mark Anthony Harrison, 33, faced charges of assault and battery by a mob in the first and second degree, and one weapon charge. Earl T. Clyburn, 22, and Keshawn O'Bryan Wade, 31, were both charged with illegal carrying of a pistol and obstruction of justice. At the time of their arrests for the shooting, five of the six suspects were reportedly already out on bail for previous, unrelated charges. Following their initial court appearances, Brice, Duncan, Dunifer, and Harrison were denied bond, while Earl Clyburn and Wade were released on bond pending trial.
