In the late autumn of 2021, the life of 42-year-old Adam Lee Jarrett was cut short in a violent encounter in the popular tourist destination of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. On the night of Wednesday, November 24, 2021, an argument erupted in the parking lot of a hotel along Ocean Boulevard. The heated exchange was between Jarrett and another man, identified as 23-year-old Ladarius Evans. The dispute escalated tragically when Evans produced a firearm and shot Jarrett multiple times.
Despite being wounded, Jarrett managed to fire back at Evans, injuring him as well.
Emergency services rushed to the scene, and both men were transported to Grand Strand Medical Center for treatment. Tragically, Adam Jarrett succumbed to his injuries at the hospital. The Myrtle Beach Police Department quickly launched an investigation into the deadly shooting. Their inquiries led them to identify Ladarius Evans as the primary aggressor in the altercation.
Within a week of the shooting, authorities had gathered enough evidence to move forward with legal action against Evans. On November 30, 2021, the Myrtle Beach Police Department announced that they had charged Ladarius Evans with murder in connection with Adam Jarrett's death. Investigators revealed that their findings indicated both men had been shooting at each other during the incident. Evans was taken into custody to await legal proceedings for his role in the fatal confrontation.
The case against Ladarius Evans progressed through the justice system, and in May of 2024, a resolution was reached. Evans appeared in court and pleaded guilty to a lesser charge of voluntary manslaughter for his involvement in Adam Jarrett's death. Following his guilty plea, Ladarius Evans was sentenced to serve 15 years in prison. This concluded the legal chapter of a dispute that ended in one man's death and another's lengthy incarceration.
