On a late December evening in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, a black sedan traveling north on Kings Highway came to an abrupt stop. A woman exited the vehicle, screaming for someone to call the police, her husband had been shot. Inside the car, in the passenger seat, was 23-year-old Quashaun Bromell, who had sustained a gunshot wound to the head. The incident occurred around 10 p.m. on December 30, 2020, in the 100 block of North Kings Highway.
Witnesses in the parking lot of a nearby Waffle House rushed to the scene. One witness, a former boy scout and ROTC member, checked on Bromell and found a slight pulse as he leaned his head back. There was money visible inside the vehicle.
Following the shooting, two other men who were inside the car fled the scene. The subsequent investigation by the Myrtle Beach police led to the arrest of two suspects, 31-year-old Deangelo Alston of Myrtle Beach and 31-year-old Terry Beaufort of Kingstree. Both men were charged with murder in connection with Quashaun Bromell's death. They were also charged with distribution of marijuana. If convicted of the murder charges, they could face a sentence of life in prison.
During his initial court appearance, a municipal judge denied bond for Terry Beaufort, as only a circuit court judge can set bail on murder charges. It was also noted that Beaufort was already out on bond for a previous drug trafficking charge, a case he expected to be dismissed. Deangelo Alston was scheduled to appear in court at a later time.
