On a summer evening in Columbia, South Carolina, a dispute tragically escalated, leaving one man dead. Evans V. Wood, a 54-year-old male, was shot in the lower body on June 26, 2022, following an argument in the 2400 block of Sea Gull Lane in the northern part of the city. Richland County Sheriff's Department deputies responded to a report of a shooting at approximately 9 p.m.
and found Wood wounded.
Emergency services transported Wood to a local hospital, but he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead upon arrival. The Richland County Coroner, Naida Rutherford, later confirmed his identity. Wood, affectionately known as 'Dell', was a graduate of Richland Northeast High School where he had played varsity football. Funeral services were held on July 6, 2022, followed by his interment at Fort Jackson National Cemetery.
The investigation into the shooting led authorities to a suspect. The Richland County Sheriff's Department arrested 27-year-old Tyler Marshall in connection with the fatal incident. Marshall was charged with murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime. He was subsequently booked into the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center. Authorities stated that the shooting stemmed from an argument between Marshall and Wood.
