In a tragic turn of events on a summer evening in Columbia, South Carolina, a dispute escalated into fatal violence, claiming the life of 30-year-old Shaun Michael Green on August 9, 2020. The male victim was identified by the Richland County Coroner. An autopsy later confirmed that Green succumbed to a gunshot wound to his upper body.
The incident began with a heated argument at a residence on Dubard Street.
Following the verbal altercation, Jamaar Brown, then 42 years old, allegedly shot Green while Green was inside a vehicle. Despite being gravely wounded, Green managed to drive away from the scene. His flight for life ended a short distance away in the 3400 block of North Beltline Boulevard, where he crashed his vehicle into a fence. Columbia Police Department officers responded to the crash and found the injured Green, immediately calling for emergency medical services. He was transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced deceased.
Investigators quickly identified Jamaar Brown as the suspect in the shooting. He was arrested the following day, on August 10, 2020. The Columbia Police Department announced that Brown faced multiple charges, including Murder, Possession of a Firearm during the Commission of a Violent Crime, Possession of a Firearm by a Person Convicted of a Crime of Violence, and Discharging a Firearm into an Occupied Vehicle. During their investigation, police recovered a firearm at the Dubard Street home where the argument took place. Following his arrest, Brown was booked at the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center.
